Dr Nicole Laurence – Practice Owner

After reading the delightful tales in James Herriot’s books “All Creatures Great and Small” Nicole’s childhood dream was to become a vet. Nicole graduated from Murdoch University in 1997 and worked in mixed animal practice in the beautiful Albany for ten years. She also travelled extensively and locumed throughout the UK for many years.

In 2012 another dream has also been realized by teaming together with Nathan Mannix to start Foothills Animal Hospital. Nathan and Nicole wanted to create a vet hospital where they are able to deliver veterinary care in a family, environmentally and truly pet friendly way. Nicole loves it when her patients love coming to the vet and her favourites thing about the hospital is the outdoor consulting garden for dogs and “Tricia the elephant” blackboard in the kids’ play area which is a lovely bright play space.

Nicole regularly attends conferences and seminars to ensure her patients get the options of the most up to date care available. She has a special interest in dermatology and is our hospitals Cat Friendly Advocate.

Nicole with her husband Mike and two small children live in Bedfordale and have a very mischievous cat “Pudding” (who was a hand raised orphan), a few horses plus many kangaroos and ducks which call their place home.

Dr Christina Smit

Chris is a local Gidgegannup girl who just loves animals of all shapes and sizes. She graduated from Murdoch University in 2005 and spent the following chris-smit-websitetwo years working in a mixed practice veterinary hospital. A horse riding injury encouraged the move into a small animal practice where she has been ever since.

Chris enjoys expanding her knowledge and gained a Masters in Small Animal Practice in 2011. Her passion has always been surgery, particularly reconstruction work and orthopaedics. Weightlifting in her spare time sure helps with this!

Dr Nathan MannixNathan2

Dr Nathan Mannix started Foothills Animal Hospital with Dr Nicole Laurence back in March 2013. Nathan was a favourite vet among many Foothills clients and their pets plus was a well respected vet among his peers. Sadly the Foothills family said good-bye to Nathan, his wife Kristen and their three young children in early 2018. The Mannix’s have moved back home to Minnesota in the  US after many years living abroad. We wish them every success in starting up their  vet hospital and with their new life back home.
